Dear all,
The pandemic has changed how we work, learn and interact as social distancing guidelines have led to a more virtual existence, both personally and professionally. Here’s my story about this lockdown
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed my daily life to some extent as I am stuck in my house, like many others, during the lockdown. This global pandemic has affected various aspects of life in different countries.
I was initially happy about the virus because there was a lockdown all over Pakistan, there were no schools and colleges, my pre board exams of college got cancelled and I get more reluctant by hearing the rumors of cancellation of board exams. I started spending most of my time on my phone chatting with friends, and on laptop watching seasons ,had an ash life initially enjoying all the day with playing games, watching movies right from the morning to the night. Then my board exams got cancelled too and we passed our intermediate on the basis of results of class 11. After that I remained untouch with studies for a long time and then got admitted at IST in the department of Aerospace engineering.
My experience of lockdown as a university student has had its ups and downs as you would imagine. It was my first semester at university and spent totally online. In the beginning, many problems were faced by me and my class fellows regarding our interaction with our teachers and other fellows.Being confined to our homes with no outside social interactions with fellow humans is tough and goes against our human nature. Nothing compares with going University and experiencing the full uni student life of interacting with friends and lecturers.
Slowly taking online class after some time in the lockdown period onwards. Initially Online classes feel better. Where there was a complete change in the situation of the class’s atmosphere. After a month came to know that there are lots of disadvantages and advantages to this type of education. Finally came to know that this virus is not a blessing to students but a foreshadow of the student’s further life to adjust the Online mode of education. The shift in education is totally different from all my education career. Online classes, the adoption rate is around 50-60% whereas in the classroom the adoption was around 80-90%. Taking classes in a room continuously for six to seven hours in front of laptop was a worst experience .
For me, this lockdown was the best time to spend with grandparents, cousins, mother, father, and other relatives as there is ample time to spend (if possible, as per government norms). Moreover, everyone is doing working from home. There is no need to step out of the house and meet with relatives you can pick the phone and call them and talk with builds more family relations. Besides this ,eating healthy food of mother’s hand and avoiding fastfood of market helped alot in maintaining good health and saving money.
Even though there is so much uncertainty and change to deal with, I try to keep myself motivated and engaged. I watch the news only occasionally to keep my mind off the current situation. Instead I listen to music to take care of my body and mind. Everything was good except our education because it was our first experience of uni studies and was spent online.Hoping the government take good decisions on education with clear instructions as early as possible to avoid the situations that occurred by Covid-19 pandemic.
Yours truly,
Ali Abdullah
