Brief recap of life during pandemic

Post by Ahmed Faisal »

31 December, the day, which is usually known as New Year’s Eve, but little did the world knew that from 2019 this day will be remembered as the day when the tragedy began. The beautiful world as we know became a prison, consisting of people unable to live their normal lives due to a stupid virus. As of now this virus has taken 3.43 Million lives and its showing mercy, increasing the casualties day by day.

In Pakistan, the beginning of covid was somewhat weird. Day by day, little by little this disease spread itself, becoming a dark cloud over this wonderful country. On 13, March 2020, government of Pakistan announced that they will be imposing a lock down of 2 weeks on country to have a control over this virus, it was nothing but a hopeful and optimistic approach, but the spread of the virus was uncontrollable.

I remember at that time I was at my phupho’s house, little did we know that we all will hope for these little gatherings and small talks. At that time, I was in college and my 2-year board exams were around the corner. As soon as I heard the announcement of disclosure of institutes and many other sectors, I was like this is more serious that I thought. Later, I understood the magnitude of how dangerous this virus is and what is happening all over the globe. At first it was difficult for me to stay at home. For a person, who used to hang out with his friends almost daily. All of this was kind of difficult, but I adjusted to this lifestyle rather quickly. Watching movies, anime daily and obvious studying a little bit because at that time there was an uncertainty regarding examinations. Ultimately, they got cancelled and I was promoted based on my first-year examinations result. So, it was a win, win situation.

To be honest, Life was good during pandemic. It felt like for once the world has stopped and is being nice to me. It was like living your best and worst possible life at the same time. Best as in I was having the time of my life, no tensions of any kind, just chilling, watching movies, playing games on mobile or gaming consoles and the most important thing was that the amount of family time increased. We were seeing each other more than what we used to. The worst part is kind of obvious. Daily you woke up to something new, number of cases and deaths were increasing day by day and everything was out of control. Country was in state of an emergency.

I feel kind of ashamed mentioning that my life was good during the pandemic while there were families out suffering due to this pandemic. Their businesses, which was their source of income, was on a verge of complete loss. They had little or nothing to eat. Their life became a living a hell. I guess my family and all the other people who got more blessings than a common man should be thankful to Allah but at the end of the day some of us were lucky and some of us were not. Well, this luck was for a short amount of time, In June 2020 me and family got the corona virus, and I must tell you those 14 days of recovery felt like a month. By the grace of Allah, we all recovered from corona but to this day sometimes I face breathing Issue. It was a weird experience overall, from watching drama series everyday to all the medicines I had to eat, it was one crazy experience. Then after few months I got Admission into University and that marked the beginning of a new life for me, but it did not have a great beginning because I had to deal with online classes, and it literally sucks.

This pandemic was and is one hell of a roller coaster ride for me. It made me feel and think about stuff I never have done before. Maybe its maturity or maybe these are the signs this world is trying to deliver to me. This was my brief recap of this pandemic. Writing this brought back a lot of memories and made me realized of what I have become. I would like to conclude by saying that May Allah clear out this virus from the world. (AMEEN)

Ahmed
