My Covid-19 lockdown Experience

Dear All,
Here's my story ;)

To begin, the first time I heard about the COVID-19 virus was towards the end of December 2020. I didn't care much about it because I thought it would be the same as the Ebola virus etc., where you had government officials making statements about the threat of this virus. Most of the news coverage was focused on the impact the virus had in the city of Wuhan, China.

I was in second year when the first case of Corona virus came to Pakistan. News about the quickness of the spread of the virus in Pakistan began to circulate. The government started trying to stop its spread. I still remember our board papers were about to start and I was preparing them. The next day I had my first paper but at night I received an email from the college that the government has closed all the Education institutions. Similarly, after a few days, the situation worsened and the government closed almost all the workplaces.

Corona virus was spreading rapidly in Pakistan, so I was worried about what would happen to our papers, so the government announced a few days later that all students would be promoted, which saved my one year of academic career.

At first, people didn't take the corona virus seriously, which is the main reason for its spread. To be honest, I didn't believe it either, but when my sister, who was a doctor, got infected by Corona virus then I realized my mistake. From then on, I started to fully follow the SOPs of Corona virus. The Corona virus has not only affected education but also unemployment of people in all sectors, weakening of the country economically etc. its all caused by the Corona virus.

Moving on, I took admission in the university to continue my studies but as the government only allowed online classes, our class started in the same way. At first, I felt very strange that from morning to evening sitting in front of the computers and sometime the issue of internet has caused many problems but after a few days I got used to it. Really those days were very difficult. That’s how my first semester went.

Then, when our second semester started, the spread of the Corona virus had slowed down and the government reopened all educational institutions. At that time, I was very happy to meet my friends but that happiness was only for two weeks because the third wave of Corona Virus wreaked havoc which closed all the institutions and sent us back home. But now we are used to such environment.

In the end, I understand how difficult this must be, but it's important to remember that none of us is alone. No matter how scared, or trapped, or alone you feel, things can only get better. Take time to revisit the things you love, and remember that all of this will eventually pass. All we can do right now is stay at home, look after ourselves and our loved ones, and look forward to a better future.

Sincerely,

Saad Mujtaba
