Dear all,

A pandemic is an epidemic of an infectious disease that has a spread across a large region, for instance multiple continents or worldwide and currently we are dealing with such situations. pandemic hits people differently, some loses their lives, some their loved ones and some loses means of earnings their jobs, it is a time of great struggle. or we can say it is a time of test for humanity, how to deal with these scenarios. humanity has gone through many difficulties we have learnt a lot from those terrible events and still we can. I am Asif Gulzar and here is my short story of how my life is in times of COVID.

I remember receiving news of a disease outbreak in Wuhan China on social media plat- forms like Facebook, Instagram twitter, back then I was not aware of what actually the disease was, but videos I saw they were very horrible to watch. People were scared panic they had no idea of what is going on. Doctors were trying to help their people but how can they when they had no idea of what is the situation, wrong with their people. But the most terrible things were not disease but how people of other countries responded. I saw videos people making fun of patients and started calling it a Chinese virus. Any how soon the world was under attack of virus as it spread to all across world. I also remember the first confirmed patient of virus in my country Pakistan was from Iran and was traced at the border. Soon virus was detected in other people at different location across the country.

As virus was spreading, we started receiving positive news about a possible lockdown in country. At that time, I was in Karachi on job, I was preparing for my admission for my graduation program next year. I had to appear for my NTS exam, planned on 29th of march but lockdown was to start from 25th of march so it was then postponed. I remember how people reacted as lockdown was announced in Sind Pakistan, I saw people somehow trying to reach their homes from Karachi. It was a huge crowd gathered around every train in station of Karachi. No SOP’s just somehow trying to get on train and to start their journey. Trains were leaving over loaded, I was really amazed that the total purpose of lockdown was to avoid contact but it was so hard to breath in that massive crowed, I was so worried as pandemic situation in other countries was so worse, I thought if any infected person is on the train, it will be so dangerous for the rest. And these people were actually moving to different regions.

Soon country was under lockdown situation, I was back in my home and I received a news of confirmation of my admission in my upcoming graduation program. But now the problem was we have to deal with a situation of online leaning, it was a very difficult process as no proper facilities re available in my country, like a stable internet connection a continuous electric supply. I was hoping somehow to get back to face to face medium, I got a very bad score probably the worst in my career as I was running from this medium of learning but I realized that it is going to take a while for us to get back on campus medium. I am trying to coup with these situations right now.

Positive news is coming from our country and we are hoping soon we will be back on normal routine; people are being vaccinated. My hope is that may this pandemic ends soon people get their jobs back. It was a time of horror but I believe people responded with a great attitude we learnt many new things, where we are standing in our educational and health system. We should be prepared for circumstances like these in future. May this be the learning to correct our mistakes and flaws. May Allah protect every soul.

Sincerely,
Asif
