Pandemic Lessons

Respected fellows,

I’d like to highlight the consequences of lockdown that our nation faced and the little calm that came with it, my way. It resulted in a loss of quality education and economic exhaustion for the entire country. As students and professors faced challenges on online forums, they made mistakes, some of them may weigh heavy for the future of the youth, but we pray and hope for the best results. I think, some of these courses must be repeated, by the universities and schools, for a better understanding of those subjects. It was extremely difficult to study in such depressive times.

The real wave of sadness and laziness hit when the month of Ramadan began, this was my first Ramadan away from my father and in Pakistan, no taraweeh prayer in congregation, no iftar parties, nor any sign of happiness on eid, I felt quite unrelaxed on most days. By the end of Ramadan, my uncle passed away, it’s so hurtful to revisit that memory. We were told to pray for his covid report to be negative because that would mean we could give him a proper funeral or things would be more complicated. By Allah’s mercy, that report was negative, yet we were told time and time again, to maintain appropriate distance and be careful. In times like these, when you see people around you, mourning their loss and when you, yourself are struggling with the same emotions, it isn’t easy to strictly follow SOP’s, hence, there was a greater risk due to the exposure. The helplessness in such moments can’t be explained in words, but due to this I learnt, how to comfort people; one of the social situations that I learnt to cope up with. I never understood how to comfort people who lost their loved ones, but going through such a situation myself, I realized that my words could makes their grief, bearable. Moreover, this pandemic has made me realize that life is uncertain, and I have become more grateful and accepting of my situations. It has acted as a reminder of this temporary, short life and thus has helped me set my priorities right.

Apart from the mental and physical labor that everyone went through, our country’s economy heavily relied upon digital media, post - pandemic, we will have to make up for the lost wealth and unearned currency. Most of Pakistan has moved towards digital forums and maybe helping digital artists and online workers, by making conditions of business favorable for them is a way forward. Paying zakaah and charity would remove inflation from the society and then we will be in some time able to get back on track. InShaa Allah

It’s been a year and even the vaccine we produced isn’t a guarantee of our health, I hope to see the end of this soon, where people can go back to earning peacefully and hugging fearlessly, but I fear there’s a long way till we see that light at the end of the tunnel.

Take care,
Moina
