Pandemic Diaries

Hi everyone!
For me Covid has been pretty disturbing, along with it the uncertainty has been too much to go through. Back when not even a single case was reported, life was happy. Then came the worst days of our lives. Earlier, I thought it’s just something mild but then when first death was reported, it shook me to my core. Well, to be honest, in the beginning when lock down started in march 2020, I spent some quality time with my family. We ate, we laughed, played and did many activities we had planned. Everyone was together after a long time.
With each passing day, the situation got worse and many close family members were diagnosed with covid. It sure was the first peak Pakistan had to suffer from. It was too devastating; a lot of people lost their loved ones including me. I cannot forget that time period. It was so exhausting. Covid started to affect mental health of many people, hospitals had a huge burden of patients. It was very difficult for health care workers to perform their best at such crucial time. But we successfully pulled off the task efficiently at the end of first peak of Covid-19. In the meantime, there were some people who neglected the whole existence of Covid and made-up conspiracy theories.
I wanted to help people in the hour of need. Since I was a student at that time, I chose social media as a platform to raise awareness of Covid and it made great impact. It was a much needed. I asked many of my fellows to join me in the cause. We collected donations from various NGO’s and general public also and bought masks with that money. We started to distribute those masks door to door and also gave a brief session on how to protect yourself from COVID. People were very eager to know more. We were very happy that everyone is atleast trying their best to fight the pandemic.
My academic life suffered a great loss. It was the first time for almost every one of us to have online education. Earlier it was very tough for me to understand everything in online classes. I lost all my focus. But with the passage of time, I made a routine for myself, I tried my best and online classes weren’t too big a problem for me. A whole year passed and I managed to pass my first semester.
During this period, I got a bit if time to ponder upon various things including my interests and hobbies. Since I am not a bibliophile, I got a lot of time to read my favorite books which I absolutely loved. It was good to have something to help me spend my time on.
It’s the third wave of COVID going on right now. All vocational and educational institutions are closed but since vaccination is taking place and cases are falling everyday, Government is planning on opening up of everything following strict guidelines. I hope we win our battle against Covid soon. All the love to people who lost their lives. May they rest in peace.
