Dear all,
Here’s a quick read for anyone who wants to hear my experience in this Covid-19 situation. I’m sure many of you are going to relate with my experience so let’s start.
A day in end of the course of my fsc, I heard about Covid-19 disease in the world. The first time when I caught wind of the COVID-19 disease was in February 2020 in Pakistan. I was worried from the moment I heard about it and when it reached Pakistan, I was terrified. Covid-19 looked bad to me because I had read some books about the similar kind of diseases in the past which had no cure. Somehow, I managed to maintain my focus towards studies. I had exams coming soon so I was preparing for them. I had a feeling inside my heart that it might affect my studies and perhaps I was right. In a manner of just few days this disease spread all over Pakistan.
The disease spread faster than anyone could have imagined. It caught the people off guard. No one could have thought that it would result in such a serious situation. As far as I remember the first few cases appeared in Sindh. Some people came from outside the country and were the cause of Covid-19’s spread. They didn’t know they were infected. At that point there were no testing kits and no cure available. All this out of control situation put our country on the brink. A whole new lifestyle was about to start. Covid-19 was all over the news. Every citizen of Pakistan got seriously concerned. A person died and following him a few more died. An Emergency situation was created in the country and finally the government imposed a nationwide lockdown.
The nationwide lockdown was something very new for the nation. Just when a week had passed. People started suffering badly financially and mentally. The lockdown affected daily wagers and local businessmen the most. There was no resource for these people. Some started going outside and sit by the roads protesting and asking people for help. Finally, government decided to give all the needy people some packages and money to help them go through this difficult condition.
The whole nation was asked by the government to quarantine themselves in their homes. As lockdown was already imposed there was no other choice for the people except to stay in their homes. A general statement became popular among the people: “Stay Home, Stay Safe”. I really liked it as it showed the importance of quarantine at home. The quarantine made me happy in the start of days. Despite the tense conditions going on i thought it as the opportunity to study better for my exams and relax a bit. I did a lot of stuff in my first week of quarantine. I also kept a check on Covid-19 cases, they kept increasing and it was quite discouraging for me to remain happy or even relaxed with this kind of news circulating. I started to feel pain of the people suffering and became quite distressed. But then I shared this matter with my family and we all decided to collectively pray for all the people suffering and safety of the country on a daily basis. Praying helped a lot and gave us hope. We also helped some needy people in our vicinity and encouraged other family members and friends to help those suffering due to lockdown or Covd-19. Days kept passing by in lockdown and even my fsc exams got cancelled. Almost all the festivals were celebrated at home by everyone during the year.
While there were so many deaths and suffering among people of the country, there were also many positive things associated with this quarantine. It felt like life had returned to its natural form. While people were at their homes, plants and times had time to grow. Animals and birds returned to their homes. There was a decrease in pollution. The sky became clearer. People got time for their family, especially for the older members of families. I experienced the importance of having friends as couldn’t meet them through the lockdown. I missed them a lot and decided to take time off social media, give more time to friends, life outside the digital world once the pandemic gets over. Moreover, I realized how precious life is and how much we should thank Allah Almighty for the things HE has given to us.
This disease of Covid-19 is not over yet. Lockdown is still imposed in some cities. But the good thing is vaccine and testing kits for Covid-19 are finally available which provide a lot of immunity against it. Work is still under process for the cure. Whilst all this is going on we should not forget to follow SOPs and stay at home as much as possible to control the spread of this dangerous disease. Let’s pray we all get through these difficult situations safe and sound.

Sincerely,
M.Asadullah Gill
