Pandemic Diaries

The outbreak of COVID-19 across the globe in late 2019 and first quarter of 2020 took the world by storm. It spread like fire and took the whole world in its grasps. Governments imposed lockdowns to keep people away from socializing in order to normalize the transmission of virus. Recently, our country also went through a long phase of lockdown which affected each and every aspect of our lives. As you know that in lockdown, socializing was very limited and everyone was restricted to their homes and all sort of outdoor activities were sanctioned.
Being a university student and a sports enthusiast, my life before lockdown was very busy especially in week days. The weekends were fun for me when I would usually hang out with my friends and spend some quality time with my family. However, as soon as the lockdown was imposed here, university got closed and all outdoor activities in which I was involved also got cancelled. Football clubs, gyms, hotels, shopping malls, etc., were closed and thus I also had to spent my seven days a week inside my home until the situation gets better.
In the beginning of this lockdown phase, it was quite boring because it was a complete shift from our conventional lifestyle to this one in which our freedom was compromised. I would say that this initial phase made me rather lazy because getting up late in the morning, staying up late till night, not having any sort of physical activity and sending most of time using social media or watching Netflix. After a week or two, our university started online classes which itself was a new experience. Though, I personally missed the physical interaction we used to have in university with our teachers and friends but sometimes you have to adapt to new situations, which I did. I also started doing exercise daily for 30-45 minutes in my house which helped me to get fit. I started studying some books in leisure time. I read “Forty Rules of Love” and I really enjoyed reading it.
Being the only child of my parents, I went through a period where I felt lonely because my all enjoyment was with my friends and because of this I used to procrastinate a lot but thankfully I managed to cop up with it by finding new hobbies indoor and doing videocalls to friends which helped me elevate my loneliness.
Although, the lockdown was an obvious choice to stop the spread of COVID-19 but it also had some serious consequences. As the economy of our country is not much stable and also its major constituents are daily wagers which were affected heavily in the pandemic.
Talking about the educational sector of the country, the condition isn’t good at all. The exams of matriculation, intermediate, o/a levels, got cancelled and students got promoted but talking about other classes only those schools which are advanced enough started online classes but rest of low budget schools didn’t, resulting in the loss of almost one educational year of their students due to lack of resources. Our health sector was most affected. The shortage of oxygen and other problems are worth mentioning but the recent decline in the cases has shown us a ray of hope that things are getting back to normal track steadily and the situation will normalize in the coming days, Inshaa’Allah!
