Dear Friends,

It was the initial months of new calendar year 2020. I was having my normal routine. College, academy and then dinner with friends. Once at dinner we discussed this new deadly outbreak that was in those days named as Chinese virus. We just mocked and had no expectations of its this wide spread. We were sure about the competence of Chinese government that it might stop this outbreak and won’t let it be a global pandemic.
Later, the cases arose in other countries and flight operations were being terminated with china. Later someone from Karachi was diagnosed and it was the first case in Pakistan. Government soon closed educational institutions. Lockdown was imposed. It was at this moment when I firstly felt feared of this pandemic. The daily routine which was normal for all of us was no more a routine. I hardly was possible to manage two meetups with friends a month.

We studied online initially and rumors for the cancellation of exams started. It was when we lost our interest in studies as we wanted them to be cancelled as it was our new experience and we were some of those students who usually prepared at the very end of the year. I had hopes of exams cancelling but my parents and teachers were assuring me that they will happen at any cost. I had scored good grades in the part one of my intermediate. This was one of the major reasons that I wanted them to be cancelled.

I played online games and developed a hobby of book reading. I read books in the day and played online video games all night. I got confident in my writing skills with this increasing vocabulary. I initially started a YouTube channel with my brother where we gave tip regarding batting and bowling. I was badly missing cricket with my friends and this was one of the only ways of keeping my spirit and form alive in the game. That unluckily showed no response from the audience and we thought of stopping it due to hot summer and poor weather conditions being another factor.

I missed those AFTAAR parties and my typical Ramzan routine which I had been maintaining for past 4 years. I was missing all my things badly and wasn’t aware of the fact that I won’t be able to enjoy my Eid in the way this festival should have been celebrated. Then in the prayer I was missing those Eid hugs, went to relatives and the most favourite part hangout with friends. I was missing those Eid parties and gossips with cousins and friends.

After eid, I was very busy in preparing for universities entrance exams, applying in different universities. For this I need to travel in different cities especially in Islamabad and Lahore where this disease is at its peak. I gave my some entrance exams in very stressful situation thinking, may be the person sitting after me was infected. Which was a very awkward situation for me.

Then with the passage of time I became accustomed to it. I know how to tackle this situation and wearing mask while going outside became my habit. In the last, covid teaches me that time was not same for everyone, you have to prepare for the worst. It make me able to tackle different problems and situations. It bring the technology closer to me. So, I hope that this pandemic will end soon.

Yours sincerely,
Muhammad Abdullah
